Manchester, CT, January 8, 2010 – The Association for the Study of Connecticut History (ASCH) announces the winner of the Betty M. Linsley Award for the best works on a significant aspect of Connecticut history.
The Linsley Award has been awarded to Grove Street Cemetery: City of the Dead, City of the Living, a film by Karyl K. Evans, produced for the Board of the Friends of the Grove Street Cemetery, Inc. The Betty M. Linsley Award honors Betty Linsley, a history teacher, librarian, archivist, genealogist, and former treasurer of the Association for the Study of Connecticut History. The Linsley Award is awarded to the best work on a significant aspect of Connecticut history published by or for a Connecticut historical society or non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the history of Connecticut. This is the first time in the history of the ASCH Awards that an award has gone to a historical documentary. The nominator of the film wrote that the film is “...a remarkable documentary created by Karyl Evans. Grove Street Cemetery: City of the Dead, City of the Living is a powerful historical account of the New Haven cemetery founded in 1797. -- Evans’s documentary is great history and great videography too, a rare combination for any subject, an exceptional accomplishment considering this documentary’s sensitive subject.”
