1. Monday May 24th at 11:00 AM New Haven Nature Preserve At Long Wharf
Our very own Cordalie Benoit, a member of the Land Trust, will be our tour guide. The Preserve, besides having native trees and being a bird santuary, has benches and pathways. The walk will be followed by lunch at Leon's restaurant at 12:15 PM. Please email Darlene at daruten1@aol.com to reserve your tour/lunch or just lunch if you cannot make the tour. More details will follow.
2. Tuesday July 20th leaving New Haven at 9:00 AM Harkness Memorial Park and Botanical Garden in Waterford, CT about an hour's drive from New Haven
This 230 acre park and garden is located on Long Island Sound and is listed on the National Register of Historical places. The park contains a 42 room mansion with surrounding area containing an Italian, Oriental and and cutting garden and greenhouses. Formerly, this area was Eolia, the estate of Edward Harkness,heir to a fortune made by investments in Standard Oil. Details to follow.
3. Monday September 13th leaving New Haven at 9:00 AM Maywood Gardens in Bridgewater, Connecticut about a 2 hour drive from New Haven.
This "Showplace of Connecticut" is a 1,100 acre garden overlooking a valley. So far our plan is to tour the gardens by flatbed..(20 people per tour) and then have a box lunch on the grounds of Maywood. This tour will be followed by a stop at Hollintia Nurseries and growing facilities about 20 minutes from Maywood but on the way back to New Haven. If interested, I urge you to reserve early as the maximum number of people for this garden will be limited and on a first come basis.
