GARDEN CLUB OF NEW HAVEN

General Meeting

February 6, 2012

President Ehrenkranz introduced the Horticulture Committee program “All ‘Bout Composting” at 10:50am, preceding our general meeting. Millie Legenhausen shared the “recipe for recycling” in the compost heap with the help of power point. Thoroughly enjoyable and informative.

President Ehrenkranz called the Business Meeting to order at 12:15.

Billie Ladd read a synopsis of the finalists for the GCA Founder’s Fund Award. The membership was then asked to vote on the one they deemed most deserving.

Debbie Moore introduced our speaker Clive Lodge who was born and schooled in England. His topic “Formal Gardens, A Dying Art”was quite informative especially of note the issue of the Boxwood Blight here in the United States as most Formal Gardens rely on the boxwood for sculptural effect.

The Business Meeting was called to order at 1:15.

The Board Meeting Minutes were approved.

The Treasurer’s Report stated an income of $2777.94 this past month with total assets of $102981.45.

President Ehrenkranz complemented Jody Bush the cocktail party for prospective members held in her home.

Also mentioned was the upcoming premiere of our film, “The New Haven Green, Heart of A City.” All members are encouraged to attend on April 24 at 7:00 at the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale.

Issues were discussed at the Zone II Presidents meeting in regard to the new GCA website. Any problems membership may have with the sight should be directed to either our president or Rosita Murphy.

Ruth Martin, Louise Carter and Adele Edgerton are mending after medical issues and would appreciate a note or phone call during their recuperation.

Committee Reports follow:
