Dear Members,
This is my last Presidents letter. These past two years have flown by and I can hardly believe my term is coming to an end. I want to say just what an honor and privilege it has been to be the President of such an inspiring, interesting and talent filled organization. You all are wonderful and I am a better person for having known you. These are new times and we as a club have had to adapt to changes. I applaud all of our older members who have so graciously accepted the changes that were necessary to accommodate a new and modern membership; for seeing the importance of growing and for lending me the support I needed. I also want to applaud our new members who have stepped up to the plate, taken responsibility, and who are genuinely enthusiastic members. There was a time when I would have brief bouts of worry about whether or not these very busy women would be able to embrace the club in the way so many others have done in the past. I worried about whether they would be willing and able to lead in ways which would always be in the best interest of the membership. I wondered if they would grasp the importance of the varied elements of the club. Whenever I spoke about this worry I would refer to it as the “challenge” which comes from taking in new members and changing the dynamics of a club. I look around now at our membership and have no doubt that The Garden Club Of New Haven will be in good hands as the years go by and that our history of giving to the community through our civic endeavors, education, and promotion of environmental issues will continue for a long while. Thank you all for your many kind words of support and encouragement and for your willing participation in all our many activities these past two years. Love, Betsy.
