Having arrived only recently in New Haven, Judi is eager to try new activities. A neighbor introduced her to Betsy Nininger who immediately suggested that Judi join the Garden Club. Judi modestly claims to be pretty new at gardening—an interest she has developed over the past few years. As a former teacher, she would love to see the club expand educational activities for school children, and she finds it very meaningful that provisional members are in charge of planting the flower boxes at the Children’s Hospital.
Judi plans to expand her knowledge base by taking a master gardening class offered by the University of Connecticut at the Connecticut Agricultural Station in addition to attending the programs offered monthly by the Garden Club. Judi has lived in various Midwestern states as her husband moved from one university to another in furthering his academic career. He recently joined the Classics department at Yale. They have two children: Paul who is in high school and Annah in middle school.
In addition to gardening, Judi studies the piano with a private teacher and frequently accompanies young students at recitals or competitions. She serves on the Edgerton Park Board and volunteers once a week at the park conservatory. She looks forward to meeting other provisional and regular members of the Garden Club.
