Story from Betsy to share

Do you own the new Hand Book For Flower Shows ? All garden club members should own this informative book. Call National Garden Clubs headquarters to order. 1- 800-550-6007. Look for the next Flower Show Course 2 in the Fall. Always held at the AG Station. (you do not need to take the courses in numerical order but must complete all four ifyou want to be a judge. )

I was very disappointed to learn that not one person from our club was able to attend Course 1 which was held last week. Sis Schlesinger reported that they had over 50 in attendance, great for the future of Horticulture and Design and Shows, but we in our club are missing out on all that knowledge.

I have a story to tell you. Sis has a husband who is now blind, she often brings him to her events as he likes to get out of the house and away from the radio and TV. Since the Spring Glen Club does the lunches for the course days (making $10 per person I might add , while delivering delicious sandwiches, fruit and incredible deserts, donated by their members ) She had to be on duty. She brought Erv, her husband, to the second day, Horticulture. He sat in the back listening to the entiresession. He was so impressed with how much information was given out and how much there was to learn and how interesting it all was. This coming from, as Sis says, "a complete non-gardner " He now has a renewed respect for what she has been doing all these years with her designing, growing and judging,!

I told you the Courses were worth while, now you heard it from a complete novice.

PS: He wants to go to the next one, says Sis. Look for the Fall dates in the Sept or earlier issue of the Federated Bulletin . BN
