It’s hard to condense all one could say about Joyce’s great contributions to our Garden Club in these notes.
Joyce was friend and mentor to many of us, sharing her knowledge and expertise as horticulturist and top flight gardener. From those many, many horticulture workshops prepared with time and such care, to advice for horticulture passing committees and schedules for Flower Shows and her fairness and excellence as a judge, she was tireless, committed and generous. She was a fine Club President truly dedicated to our GC. I remember she held every Board meeting at her house.
As her successor I will always be grateful for her 100% encouragement and support.
She extended her activities beyond the Club to Edgerton, creating the Community Garden there with Linda, the garden of Connecticut-grown perennials at the Agricultural Experiment Station and the garden at The Mary Wade Home.
Memories of Joyce are of a generous mentor, teacher and friend and most of all a terrific plantswoman - seed to bloom - horticulture skills she tried to cultivate in those of us with not so green fingers.
