Members of the Garden History and Design Committee and other Garden Club of New Haven members traveled to West Cornwall, CT on April 22, 2008 to view the garden of Roxana and Ledlie Laughlin for possible inclusion in the Archives of American Gardens Project for the Smithsonian Institution. The 35 acre property included a more formal garden with a unique "box garden" in the shape of a square with two varieties of undulating boxwoods and large boulders placed for visual effect. This box garden is then surrounded by a large square lawn with an extensive perennial boarder and meadows beyond the stone wall. And this is just the beginning of the gardens with a water garden, and ornamental grass garden, extensive meadows, and a large stone wall garden. Color slides were taken to document the property during the spring season. Additional site visits will follow to document the gardens during each season. Stay tuned!
