Our May program will begin at the Connecticut Agriculture Station, where we will have our general meeting at noon. After the general meeting, we will be carpooling to Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden, CT.
Adam Wheeler and the staff at Broken Arrow have been busy this winter. Thanks to a grant from the State of Connecticut, they will be constructing a new sales barn and improving their web site. In addition, the staff has traveled to Ohio and North Carolina where they have found “many new horticultural treasures” to include on their “plants to get” list. Their catalog this year includes 150 new items!
The staff will take us on an informal tour of the grounds to show us the collections and display gardens and talk about some of the noteworthy plants. We should be able to see a number of the Magnolias at their peak as well as some other spring bloomers. This tour should take about an hour or so. Directions to Broken Arrow will be provided at the general meeting. Please have an idea with whom you will be carpooling. I’m sure there will be plenty of cars to arrange transportation for everyone.
Please join us on Monday, May 5th for a great field trip.
