February Program

The program for this month will present an exceptional double header wife-husband duo. The morning session will be a workshop led by Carol Chamberlin (Orr), a local landscape architect who is available to advise 3 to 4 of our members on planning changes or revampings of their gardens. We have two members already signed up and would like two more (the charge for the half hour consultation is $45). Please call Nancy Ahlstrom (865-2028) to sign up and for information about what to bring. Other members can be observers at this workshop. Maybe you can pick up some hints. The workshop will begin at 10 am. The second person of the team is Robert Orr, a distinguished local architect, who will speak to the Club about his experience as one of the original experts gathered in Mississippi to consult about the rebuilding of the area after Katrina’s destruction. Robert’s expertise consists of his background as one of the founders of the New Urbanists, a group which was formed 25 years ago to consider all aspects of town planning--architectural, environmental, and sociologicalwhen working on new sites. He will tell us about the original meeting and what has happened in the intervening time. This is bound to be a thoughtful session for environmentalists, conservationists, gardeners, and human beings.
