Any member wishing to propose a new member should refer to the by-laws for guidance.
Admission to Membership
a) Eligibility
Proposed members shall be residents of Greater New Haven or members of another club of the The Garden Club of America who are taking up residence in Greater New Haven. A candidate shall exhibit interest in one or more of the following: gardening, flower design, civic horticulture and beautification, conservation and preservation of natural resources.
b) Proposal of Members
Candidates for membership shall be proposed and seconded in accordance with the Standing Rules. Active, Associate and Sustaining members may propose and second candidates. A member may propose one candidate and second two candidates in a given year. The President and Vice-President may not propose, but may second candidates. Members of the Membership Committee may not propose or second candidates. No member may propose or second a relative.
c) Election to Membership
At least one month prior to the dues notice, new members shall be elected by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors from those recommended by the Membership Committee.
