GCA Annual Meeting

As most of you know, our Zone will be hosting the GCA Annual Meeting in Providence, RI on Friday May, 2 through Sunday, May, 4th. This is all very exciting. There is so much planning which must go into an event of this size I can only marvel at the talent and creativity of all who are making the decisions. As Volunteer Chairman, I have asked each club to appoint a Volunteer Coordinator. She gathers names of members in her club who are willing to participate as hostesses, registrars, boutique personnel and 20 question answerers and many other jobs. I in turn, am working with the Newport Volunteer Chairman and her committee as they will have to bear the largest burden as far as suppling volunteers is concerned. Two hotels and the Convention Center will be involved and volunteers will be needed in all three venues.

I want to be part (no matter how small ) of this huge happening (over 600 women) and I hope you will want to as well. The chance to meet women from all across the country is exciting. The Volunteers will be allowed to attend some of the events and to sit in on some of the meetings. There is to be a flower show which promises to be top notch (mainly because Sylvia Abbott and Nancy D'Oench are in charge). The Volunteer Coordinator for our club is Carol Lang. She will be gathering names at the November meeting and at other meetings until we filla quota of at least 10. Happily we did have eight sign up last June at our Annual Meeting, Cordalie Benoit, Lucy Elliot, Lisa Lovejoy, Sandra Haller,Karen Doyle, Judith Cushingham, Elaine Anderson and Beth Gilson.

I can't say what the jobs will be right now but we will know more soon. I have sent out feelers, among the committee, for people who might provide overnight accommodations. Providence is an easy drive and car-pooling is very possible. Let Carol know if you would like to be included as a volunteer and look for a sign up sheet at the November meeting. --Betsy Nininger
