At the March general meeting, members voted on their choice for the winner of the 2009 Founders Fund Award. In the final tally, our club's choice for the winning project was proposed by the French Broad River GC and seconded by the Twin City CG. It is to provide funding to turn a six-acre reclaimed junkyard into a park, which will provide safe access between two popular city parks along the French Broad River in Asheville, NC. This project will continue the renaissance of the French Broad River as a destination to live, work and play.

The winner of the 2009 Founders Fund Award will be announced at the GCA Annual Meeting in Providence in May. The winning project will receive $25,000, and the two runners up will receive $10,000 each.

Beth Gilson raised an important question after the vote: why don't we propose a deserving project from New Haven, like the Urban Resources Initiative? Beth volunteered to lead this effort, and we look forward to hearing more about it over the coming year. Thank you, Beth!
