The Garden Club of New Haven has become an endorsing organization for the Face of Connecticut campaign.
The Face of Connecticut is a collaboration with land conservation, historic preservation and urban advocates. The "Face of Connecticut" campaign – an aggressive, visionary initiative to significantly increase the state’s commitment over the next ten years to increase the pace of land conservation, historic preservation and urban restoration to prevent sprawl from polluting our natural resources and degrading the heritage of our communities.
The Face of Connecticut proposal calls for a $100 million annual investment to:
1. Plan responsibly for growth and conservation.
2. Restore historic buildings and neighborhoods and clean up brownfields.
3. Preserve our most critical watershed and open space lands, farmlands, and historic properties.
4. Protect and maintain these resources once they have been preserved and restored.
An Act Concerning the Face of Connecticut is pending. This bill would dramatically increase funding for the state's accomplishment of the above goals. The appropriations committee did not include this funding in its recommendations. However, there is still hope for this funding to be reinstated.
Thus, it is crucial that as many as possible contact their state legislators and Governor Rell. To find out who your legislators are and how to contact them go to www.cga.ct.gov. You can then click on "House" or "Senate" and click on "Find Your Legislator." The email address for Governor Rell is Governor.Rell@po.state.ct.us.
