President's Letter

Dear Members,
I am still basking in the memory of that wonderful program Tony Tedesco gave us on Monday. The stimulating arrangements all were so great but so were the beautiful flowers. Our very drab April became a bit brighter for a few hours at the AG Station on Monday. I have a neighbor who I call, optimistic Eddie. We see each other from time to time when we are walking our dogs. No matter what subject comes up and no matter how bleak any situation seems to be, old optimistic Eddie always can put a positive spin on things. I was looking for some encouraging words the other day about our, so far, awful Spring. I hit Eddie up with something like, “boy, do you think Spring will EVER come ?” This time he surprised me with, “naw, I don’t think so, all of my plants look dead and nothing has even started to green up and grow, I’ve given up on Spring this year “ We went our separate ways that day but when I arrived home I just had to poke around in the spot where I had planted my first Hellebore last Fall. Sure enough, there are small shoots just above the earth! I’m excited that this new plant made it over the winter and excited because I will have some positive news for my friend Eddie when next we meet. Spring IS trying to come and I know we will surely see it soon. I think some more “poking” on my part might just be the thing to do for a needed morale booster.
Thinking Spring. Love, Betsy.
