Conservation Lecture with Dr. Kathryn Kennedy Wrap-up

Thanks to Jody Bush's hard work and generosity, over 30 garden club members plus Yale students and guests enjoyed a passionate talk about the alarming state of America's vanishing flora. Dr. Kennedy shared the mission of the Center for Plant Conservation and outlined the important work that it does.

Some noteworthy facts follow:

*        The U.S. has the fourth most imperiled flora in the world.
*        5% of U.S. flora species are on the endangered list.
*        59 species in CT are of conservation concern.
*        The Center for Plant Conservation has 726 species seed-banked.
*        Restoration projects are still experimental, since this new science is only 25 years old.

If you missed the lecture and would like to get more information about the Center for Plant Conservation, please contact either Jody Bush or Debbie Edwards.

We also had a terrific tour of Kroon Hall, the stunning new "green" building at Yale. The school will be offering tours to the public on a regular basis, so check the Yale Bulletin for tour dates and times.
