VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GCA ANNUAL MEETING

GCNH has received 2 requests for volunteers for the Annual GCA Meeting – this year to be held in Providence, RI May 1 – 3. Wendy Serell of Hortulus in Greenwich is looking for arrangers and “schleppers” who are able to work one day or more. Below is information regarding her request:

Our design plan is very architectural, more structure than plant material, to reflect the urban landscape of Providence. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working for one whole day (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or more. One need not be a master designer although some experience would be helpful.

We have already begun to assemble a fun group of gals, so there will be lots of laughs to overshadow the hard work. For those interested in more than one day, we have booked extra rooms at the Westin, the cost being divided between the 2 - 3 people staying in the room. Wine and a dutch-treat dinner are also in the works for those who are able to stay.

In addition to helping with the arrangements for over 600 GCA members, a volunteer will have the opportunity to see what promises to be an outstanding flower show with the best of GCA arrangers from outside of Zone II also participating. Annual Meetings always have a great boutique, too!
The tentative schedule for this group of volunteers is as follows:Friday, May 1 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Rhode Island Convention Center:- Unloading, setting up workspace, conditioning and beginning to arrange.
- Decorating the meeting site, dais and doing small arrangements for dignitaries and GCA executive committee, and if time allows, start on the arrangements for the Saturday night dinners.Saturday, May 2 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., RICC:
- Arranging and delivering for the Zone Dinners that evening.
Sunday, May 3 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., RICC:
- Making arrangements for the Awards Dinner, boutonnieres and hand-held flowers for the Award winners, refreshing and decorating the banquet area for the dinner.
We would also welcome anyone who would consider staying to help break down and pack up the containers after the dinner around 10:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these events, please contact Wendy Serrell at wazzaroo@aol.com

Mary Catherine Bardorf of Middletown, RI is looking for hosts and guides. Jennifer Rook will email everyone the sign up sheet. Please mail it directly to Mary Catherine.

Thanks so much, Carol Lang
